There seem to more than meet the ordinary eye in the Aam Admi Party Rajay Sabha MP Swati Maliwal’s narrative of being physically assaulted by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar who was arrested by Delhi Police today from the chief minister’s residence.

Timing of the incident, delay in filing of the FIR and Maliwal’s medical examination raise serious questions about the entire episode?

The recent allegations of physical assault by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide, Bibhav Kumar, have raised several questions.

The timing of the incident, the delay in filing the FIR, and Maliwal's medical examination have cast doubts on the authenticity of the claims. While Maliwal accused Kumar of hitting her in the chest, stomach, and pelvic area with legs, two videos released by the AAP show no signs of physical assault.

The incident occurred when Maliwal visited Kejriwal's residence without an appointment, demanding an immediate meeting. However, she did not reveal the reason for her urgency. Maliwal did not register an FIR on the day of the incident but became active on Thursday, leading to the registration of a complaint and the recording of her statement in court.

The AAP has alleged that the entire incident was orchestrated by the BJP as part of a conspiracy to frame the chief minister. The incident has triggered a political storm, with the BJP heavily criticizing Kejriwal for his silence and accusing the AAP of shielding Kejriwal's personal secretary despite ample evidence against him.

The timing of the incident and Maliwal's claim, along with the AAP's counter-claim, have led to speculation that the entire drama may have been enacted to impact the Delhi Lok Sabha elections on May 25.

use of central investigating agencies against opposition parties and their leaders by the BJP government in the last few years has also raised suspicions about the authenticity of the case.

Undoubtedly, if the AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP’s claim of her maltreatment including physical assault by Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar prove correct then he (Kumar) deserves punishment according to the law of the land though there is no conclusive evidence available barring her statement.

Turns and twists in the narratives of Maliwal and the AAP make the sordid episode more curious. While in her FIR the AAP MP has accused Kumar of hitting her in the chest, stomach and the pelvic area with legs, two videos released by the Aam Admi Party show Maliwal being escorted out of the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence with no signs of physical assault and in the other video she is being seen sitting on a sofa arguing with the official staff.

Incident happened on Monday morning when Maliwal had reached Delhi Chief Minister’s residence without an appointment and demanded an immediate meeting with Kejriwal but till date she has not revealed any reason for her urgency to see the AAP supreme leader.

Maliwal does not register a FIR against the Delhi CM’s aide on Monday though she visits the Police station and narrates he version to the SHO but maintains silence on Tuesday and Wednesday not responding to calls from the Delhi Police. On Thursday, she becomes hyper active registering a complaint and a FIR is registered. On Friday, she records her statement in the court under 164 Section of the CrPC.

On Friday after news breaks out of her FIR, the AAP leader and Minister in Delhi government Atishi alleged at a press conference that Maliwal’s accusations were “baseless” and she was “lying”. Atishi further alleged that that the entire incident was orchestrated by the BJP as part of the conspiracy to frame the chief minister. She is a BJP “pawn”, the AAP leader said.

"Anti-Corruption Bureau of the BJP has filed a case against Swati Maliwal regarding the illegal recruitment of contractual employees in DCW. A charge sheet has been filed and the time of conviction is coming, we believe that Swati Maliwal is being included in the conspiracy by using this case." Atishi said.

A video from the Delhi Chief Minister's house of the alleged assault incident is also doing rounds on social media in which an altercation can be seen taking place between the staff deployed in the CM's residence and the AAP Rajya Sabha MP.

In his first reaction to the Swati Maliwal case - without naming the Rajya Sabha MP -  Arvind Kejriwal had hit out at the BJP government and accused it of picking out people from the Aam Aadmi Party one by one to arrest them, with the latest target being his personal assistant Bibhav Kumar.

A defiant Kejriwal said the Aam Aadmi Party cannot be "crushed" and, throwing down the gauntlet, declared that he would go to the BJP's headquarters in Delhi with all his senior leaders at noon on Sunday, where the ruling party could arrest them all at once if it wanted to do so.

In a video message in Hindi on Saturday, Kejriwal said, "You are seeing how these people have been after the Aam Aadmi Party. One after the other, they have been putting our leaders in jail. They jailed me, (former deputy chief minister) Manish Sisodia, (former minister) Satyendar Jain, (Rajya Sabha MP) Sanjay Singh, and now they have arrested my personal assistant today."

The Aam Aadmi Party chief, who is out on interim bail until June 2, claimed the BJP now plans to arrest his party's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who returned from London after an eye surgery and met him earlier in the day. Delhi Ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi are also their targets, he claimed.

The incident has triggered a political storm. The BJP has heavily criticised Kejriwal for his silence, with its spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia even going as far as labelling Kejriwal the "main criminal" due to his apparent inaction during the assault.

It also accused the AAP of shielding Kejriwal's personal secretary despite ample evidence against him.

Timing of the incident and Maliwal’s claim along with AAP’s counter claim reveal that the entire drama may have been enacted to impact the Delhi Lok Sabha elections on May 25. Kejriwal’s getting interim bail till 2 June from the Supreme Court did not gone well with the ruling BJP.

The way central investigating agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax Department have been used against the opposition parties and their leaders by the BJP government in the last few years raise suspicion that Maliwal’s case may have been executed to unsettle the AAP during the campaigning for the Lok Sabha battle.

When all the facts tumble out after the electoral battle has been lost and won, it may come that the Dirty tricks department was again at play?
