As we celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a section of misguided and ill-informed people drawing their inspiration from RSS-BJP narrative are making all sorts of accusations against the Father of the Nation. In the culture of the democratic system. it is not unusual for the ruling party to tease the Opposition and the Opposition to criticise the ruling party But in the last 10 years of Modi's rule this old democratic culture has changed a lot. Generally, due to being less in number, the Opposition used to attack the ruling party and the ruling party used to bear these attacks by at times laughing away the accusations and at times ignoring these. Despite being all-powerful, bearing the attacks of the Opposition has been considered the biggest strength of a democratic system.

But everything went the opposite way under Modi's rule. The weak Opposition was attacked in all possible ways and criticism of the ruling party was considered a crime. Opposition leaders were oppressed and implicated in false crimes and voices of protest coming from any direction were suppressed.

But the most surprising thing about this changed scenario is to accuse the Opposition of being terrorists and anti-national, something never done before. To suppress all voices of opposition and criticism, the ruling BJP coined  new slogans  and these were made a part of political discourse by repeating them again and again. About 90 years ago, Hitler's Nazi party in Germany did the same. Hitler, who became a dictator by climbing the ladder of the democratic system, had his propaganda minister in  Gobbles who used to say that if a lie is repeated 100 times with assertion  then it becomes a fact. Perhaps Modi s propaganda machinery has  got the inspiration to coin false slogans and repeat them again and again from there.

Article at a Glance

In India's democratic system, it's common for the ruling party and opposition to criticize each other. However, under Modi's rule, this dynamics has changed. The ruling party has become aggressive, attacking the opposition and suppressing criticism.
Opposition leaders are falsely accused of crimes, and voices of dissent are silenced. The most alarming trend is the labelling of opposition members as terrorists and anti-nationals. This tactic is reminiscent of Hitler's Nazi party in Germany, which repeated lies to make them seem true.
In India, defamation laws are weak. In the U.S. falsely accusing someone of terrorism can have severe consequences. The BJP's accusations of calling someone anti-national  are  India hypocritical, as they themselves have been  elected by only 37.5% of India’s total electorate.

The article questions the moral courage of BJP leaders to call Mahatma Gandhi's killer, Nathuram Godse, a terrorist and traitor.

But whatever it may be, what is the justification for calling farmers, unemployed youth and employees who came out in support of their demands as terrorists or anti-national ? Terrorism is a clearly defined  crime of serious nature. Defamation laws in India are very flexible and weak. In America, there is a provision for a very heavy punishment for falsely accusing someone of being a terrorist.

In the same manner  BJP leaders very easily accuse their opponents of being anti-national. Forget about the big and small leaders of the Opposition with whom they are in competition for power this allegation is even made against journalists’ some of whom are nationally known names .

To give strength to their anti-national allegation, extremely vulgar terms like tukde tukde gang and andolan jeevi have also been coined by BJP leaders . Prime Minister Modi's BJP leaders. their propaganda machinery and group of devotees are so mentally deraigned that they cannot even ask themselves a basic question as to  why would a person living in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar be anti-national and why would he want to divide the country. And then the same thing, are those who make such allegations against others   the sole  owners of the  country. The truth is that whether it was the election of the year 2014 or the year 2019 and 2024, they have not been elected by more than 37.5% of the total voters. It is funny to see  BJP leaders whose party  was rejected by more than 62% of voters even after all the electoral manipulations and propaganda, calling others anti-national.

Who is the real terrorist and traitor can be known from this cartoon which was published in 1945 by Nathuram Godse's journal Agrani. Not only Gandhiji but all the leaders of our freedom struggle are the target of this hunter. Do the BJP leaders and supporters, who without a thought  and with total irresponsibly accuse their opponents of serious charges like terrorism and treason, have the moral courage to openly call Mahatma Gandhi's killer Nathuram Godse a terrorist and traitor?
