Maharashtra: Why will Shinde and Ajit Pawar not succeed?

The assembly elections being held today in Maharashtra are important not only for the state but also for the political scenario of the entire country. Through this election, the people of Maharashtra will not only decide the future of their state, but it will also indicate the direction in which the thinking and voting trend of the public can go in other states of the country in the future. There have been many issues in this election which have affected the political direction and future of the state. Also, the reputation of many big political personalities and parties is at stake in this election.

Maharashtra is at the centre of political debate today. Amid crucial issues like by-elections in other states and the tussle between the RSS and BJP, Maharashtra is attracting the attention of many political observers.

During the  Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, it was said that Maharashtra holds special importance as it sends the second highest number of Lok Sabha seats after UP and thus plays a key role in BJP's return to power. Maharashtra played a key role in depriving the BJP of an absolute majority.

The main reason for political discussion in Maharashtra is that it has become a decisive arena where the Gujarat lobby and the opposition are face-to-face. If the Modi-Shah strategy does not succeed in Maharashtra, this assembly election can weaken the BJP's prospects in other states.

In the past years, the Modi-Shah duo has ousted elected governments in many states through manipulation. In Maharashtra too, they changed the power by dividing established parties like Shiv Sena and NCP. But now it seems that the people of Maharashtra are not in the mood to support their method.

The question is whether the ruling coalition - which includes leaders like Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar - will be able to stop the influence of leaders like Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray, who continue to enjoy popularity among the masses.

While Shinde and Ajit Pawar have all the necessary resources (majority of MLAs, support of the central government, cooperation of the Election Commission and sympathy of the media) in their favour, they seem to be lagging in terms of public support. The splitting of their parties and questioning of the top leaders do not seem to have a positive impact on the public.

One reason for their failure is that they have not fully understood the mindset of Indian voters. An average Indian voter has deep loyalty towards his elected leaders, whether they are weak or strong. This is the reason why supporters of Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray remain with them.

It has been observed in our political history that when a leader rebels against his party and chooses a different path, the public is inclined towards the party rather than the rebel leader. The situation in Maharashtra is also similar, where Shinde and Ajit Pawar do not have the kind of public support that Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray have.

The Maharashtra elections will indicate whether the public gives importance to local issues or the trends of national politics. This election will not only affect the political scenario of Maharashtra, but it can also have far-reaching consequences in national politics. If the BJP-Shinde-Ajit Pawar faction wins, it will have a direct impact on the Opposition prospects in future elections. On the other hand, if the MVA is successful, it can give new energy to the opposition and a strong challenge can be given to the BJP government at the Centre.

This election of Maharashtra will not only decide the direction of the state but will also make it clear what the mood of the public is going to be in the time to come.
