Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathi followed by 21 million subscribers for his anti-government and ant-BJP reports seems to be the latest victim of the Dirty Tricks Department (DTD) which has gone after him and his wife for the last couple of days labelling him a Muslim.

The Dirty Tricks Department (DTD) plays a crucial role in fanning disinformation, maligning opponents of the ruling establishment and dirtying images of rivals of a dictatorial regime or an ideological organisation and its Supreme Leader.

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, known for his anti-government and anti-BJP content, has become the latest target of the Dirty Tricks Department (DTD).

The DTD has been spreading false claims about Rathee, including that his real name is Badruddin Rashid Lahori and that his wife is a Pakistani national living in Dawood Ibrahim's bungalow in Karachi. Rathee, who has over 21 million subscribers, has denied these claims and accused the DTD of desperation and low moral standards.

The DTD has a history of spreading disinformation and maligning opponents of the ruling establishment. It played a role in portraying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a "Pappu" and has targeted critics and opponents of the BJP, Sangh, and Modi government.

The DTD has traditionally used rumors, half-truths, and lies as its tools, with the Nehru-Gandhi family being a frequent target.

A classic case of the modus operandi of such departments and their work has come to notice in dirtying the image of the rising popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.

Rathee, an Indian national residing in Germany, had to address reports circulating on social media regarding his wife which have gone viral. Viral posts claimed that Rathee's "real name" is Badruddin Rashid Lahori and his wife, Julie, is a Pakistani national called Zulaikha. They also claimed the couple lives in underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's bungalow in Karachi under the protection of the Pakistani military while he is residing in Germany.

A tirade targeting Rathee, who has over 21 million subscribers and is known for his videos critical of the government, has recently been launched on different social media platforms after the Modi regime became vulnerable to his YouTube broadcasts in the backdrop of the ongoing general elections.

"They have no answer to the videos I made so they're spreading these fake claims. And how desperate do you have to be to drag my wife's family into this? You can also see the disgusting moral standard of these IT Cell employees," Rathee said in response to the claims.

Rathee's YouTube channel has garnered widespread attention for its critiques of government policies and societal issues. Twenty-nine-year-old Rathee is an Indian YouTuber, vlogger and social media activist.  He is known for his YouTube videos on social, political and environmental issues.

Born in a Hindu Jat family in Haryana, Rathee had his schooling in India before he moved for higher studies to Germany where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Karlsruhe University followed by a master’s degree from the same institute in renewable energy. Rathee at present is a resident of Germany and has a German wife whom he married Julie Lbr.

A similar operation was noticed yesterday evening when a screenshot of a purported press release by the Congress, which mentioned Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the party's candidates for the prestigious Amethi and Raebareli constituencies respectively in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, had gone viral on social media.

Some other users claimed that Rahul Gandhi will contest from Raebareli, while the party has fielded Priyanka Gandhi from Amethi. In its investigation, the PTI Fact Check Desk found that the press releases shared in the name of Congress were fake. The party is yet to announce its candidates for the two high-profile seats in Uttar Pradesh.

It is worth recalling here that the DTD played an active role in the making of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi into a “Pappu”. The Department invariably goes against critics and opponents of the BJP, Sangh and the Modi government.

While advent of internet and new media communication platforms have made the working of the DTD easier but it is worth mentioning that rumour, half- truths and total lies have been its traditional tools. Nehru-Gandhi family has been its target right from the time of country’s independence.

Ancestors of the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru were declared Muslims by Hindutva outfits through sustained rumour mongering and it is continuing to date.

It is no surprise therefore that RSS-trained Narendra Modi has been going around the country saying that the Congress under the Gandhi-family would distribute the personal wealth of the majority community to the minorities.
