In film after film it's become a national obsession to denigrate Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

And the CBFC is too happy to allow this.

But frankly I did not expect a director of the calibre of Meghna Gulzar to resort to these tactics.

Her latest film 'Sam Bahadur' based on the bravery of the first Field Marshal of India SMFJ Manekshaw hit the screen on the same day as Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' and is still running in cinemas.

That is some achievement indeed for a Vicky Kaushal film to stand out against a Rabir Kapoor, Rashmi Mandanna film with Dimri as added bonus.

Meghna is credited with having done a through research on her subject which shows in the way Manekshaw talks and walks.

But I don't understand where she got an impression or rather got a license to create a Love triangle angle in the film.

It is true that Manekshaw was a continuity from the time of Nehru to that of Indira Gandhi and was introduced by Nehru himself.

But once she became Prime Minister their meetings obviously became less frequent.

There is no evidence of their being any love angle between the two even though he called her Sweetie.

But that was his way of speaking to every woman including a journalist who comes to interview him.

It's derogatory to the office of late Prime Minister to show Manekshaw's wife (Sanya Malhotra)cringe everytime there was a call from the Prime Minister (Fatima Shaikh) as if she was a 'Wo' between the 'Pati' and 'Patni.'

This is all the more shocking because they have a beautiful love marriage.

Similarly, the film shows Nehru in a very bad light. True he was blamed for the China debacle in 1962 which also shocked him. But to hear Nehru telling an army general that he could not arrange his posting because he was not sure about his own future is disgusting to say the least.

Which brings me to a point that has been hurting me for some time.

Why is it that anything said about Modi or Amit Shah brings about a spate of court cases in the country but there is no one to file a case against denigrating the Nehru family.

It seems the Congress does not need them.
