The Diwali season this year has also brought the good news of the weakening of anti Muslim rhetoric in not only India but also in the Western world which started what is now commonly known as Islamophobia.
To begin we must understand that Islamophobia is not merely the cultural disliking of Christian or Hindu cultures harping on the past injustice or atrocities Muslims have done on their communities. It is a doctrine which has a business angle and benefits the business interests of ruling communities in capitalist West and Hindu traders in India. They camouflage their business interest in a half false and half true narrative which has no relevance in the present-day world.
While in India the challenge to Hate Muslim narrative has come from the new generation of political leadership which is insisting on basic issues of price control, better employment opportunities, better and affordable education and fair and just treatment to the weaker sections of society and minorities, the challenge in the West has come from a most unexpected quarter.
The man challenging Islamophobia is young Zohran Mamdani who has challenged established leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties to emerge as the front-runner in the race to mayorship of New York election to which is scheduled on coming Tuesday ( Nov 4).
Zohran has strong Indian roots . His Muslim father and Hindu mother both belong to India who migrated first to Africa and then went to settle in the United States, Why Zohran, a sensation in the U.S, politics is not been talked about is perhaps because he is an opinion critics of our Prime Minister Modi besides being a sworn enemy of President Donald Trump from which we are seeking trade accommodation.
Zohran Mamdani's election speech to his supporters last Sunday signals the death of Islamophobia. This was a long wished-for turn of events long after America joined the Gulf War, became the biggest factory of Islamophobia around the world. The reason was that
as the most powerful and visible democratic nation in the world, it could not go to war for three decades against Muslim countries and follow that up with two decades of a fight in the Muslim world that was termed a "War on Terror" without manufacturing, propagating and encouraging hatred and prejudice against Islam and Muslims everywhere.
One very interesting fact of the RSS-BJP echo-system is that while the call themselves champions of Hindu culture and harp on India’s ancient culture and knowledge , they derive wisdom from the Christian West o modern age. While the drill, composition and mindset of RSS cadres is a copy of Nazi Germany the Hate Muslim campaign is replica of the U.S. power structure that often works at the behest of its MNCs.
The U.S.A. made the uneducated, bearded jihadist thugs the face of the Muslim for all the non-Muslim world, even though these thugs are so small in number that even to call them a "minority" among Muslims is to vastly overstate their proportions in the mass of ordinary Muslims around the world who are helpless, as any ordinary citizen is, against violent mad men propped up by corrupt and misguided regimes, including, very often, and ironically and tragically, America!
For three decades the Muslims, who lived as a minority in many parts of the world, including India, have found themselves the double target of domestic and international stigmatisation and associated discrimination because of events and people with whom they have had absolutely no connection and over whom they have no influence.
Islamophobia was never genuinely or fully about terrorism or crazy dictators; it was always a cover for blunt majoritarianism. But still, it provided the disguise that majoritarianism and racism always need to take root, flourish and bamboozle the soft-minded into bigotry.
That Mamdani could run for office so vigorously and joyously as a Muslim in New York City, the city that is the symbol of the USA for most of the world, shows a triumph of the spirit, and a boldness, daring and vision .
The contrast of the confident, articulate and handsome Mamdani with the awkward looking, terrible-haircut-ed, Vivek Ramaswamy being roasted for hiding his Hinduism is a sign of the times and a message to all Hindus who have forgotten the message of humility and self-restraint of Hinduism to become the foul, bigoted anti-Muslim chauvinists.
It is time for young Hindus to give up their obsession over veg/non-veg food and other emotional issues of no substance and develop a new vision and a scientific temper to face challenges of the modern world.
