There could be no better development in favour of a democratic frontto take on the Modi Shah duo in recent years than the coming together of Kejriwal and the Indian National Congress at the conclave of opposition parties in Bengaluru today.

This came about with the Congress coming round to accept Kejriwal’s demand to condemn the ordinance giving sweeping powers to the Lt.Governor of Delhi over the Delhi Government.

In Patna meet on June 23 this had become a contentious issue despite Mamata Banerjee trying to broker peace between the two parties.

Subsequent developments which include split of the Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra and the Panchayat elections in West Bengal must have come as a sobering reminder that Egos don’t matter only survival does.

It is true that in West Bengal the Congress was also at the receiving end of the high-handed style of the TMC and could have protested against their presence on the stage. But wise sense prevailed as the firebrand Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary was kept out of the unity talks.

Similarly in Delhi Ajay Maken, who is also among the close inner circles of Priyanka Gandhi has been a strong critic of Kejriwal and has submitted several memorandums to the Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena against him and Sisodia.

That the Congress led by Mallikarjun Kharge has been able to take a stand despite Ajay Maken’s opposition shows that the Congress is not a party of dynasts if anyone wanted proof.

The writing on the wall for the galaxy of leaders gathered in Bengaluru today is clear.

This is not the time for individual like and dislikes.

The egos of R(ahul), M(amata), K(Kejriwal), N(itish), S(talin), L(alu) and T(ejashwi) Yadav will have to become secondary to the larger cause of U(nity) and survival till 2024 and after.
