Godsevadi The Third Dimension of Hindutva

In the nationwide debate on the exact definition and dimension of the word Hindutva and Soft Hindutva yet another dimension has been added by a functionary of the Rashtriya Swabhiman Manch of K N Govindacharya.

In a widely circulated pamphlet among its millions of supporters in India and abroad, Surendra Singh Bisht, one of the senior most leaders of the organisation argues that there are three dimensions to the debate. Of course, he argues that these are his personal views and we must respect that.

We reproduce this pamphlet verbatim here:

“Three kinds of Hindu organisations are active in the country Hindu Vadi, Hindutva Vadi and Godsevadi.

There are various kinds of Hindu organisations in the country and I have tried to divide them into three categories.

It is true that on the basis of the passion and dedication of the Rashtriya Swayansewak Sangh there has been an unusual rise of Hinduism in the 21 st century.

A country that has 80 percent Hindu population cannot prevent this development.

The way the Hindus were being neglected in the name of secularism after independence also led to a sense of hurt and alienation among the Hindus.

You may or may not agree with the 'rise' of the Hindus but you cannot deny its existence.

But this rise of Hindus has given a new lease of life to several groups of Hindus and the informed society should be aware of these groups. I have given some thought to this matter on a personal level which is represented below.

I have broadly divided them into three groups-Hindu Vadi,Hindutva Vadi and Godsevadi. Without going into the dispute of those who have been traditionally Hindus or those who have been defined as Hindus by the Shankaracharya let us say that those organisations that have been working in the interest of Hindus are Hindu Vadi.

Dr.Hedgewar had created the RSS as one such organisation.Those who try to usurp the rights of defining who are the Hindus from the Shankaracharyas are Hindutva Vadi organisations.The Hindu Mahasabha, under the leadership of Veer Savarkar became such an organisation and the RSS under Guru Golwarkar also became such an organisation.

The Godse Vadi organisations are those that believe only in violence and are indulging in war cries of 'Kill' all the time. Similarly, there are several organisations that are justifying the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Currently, most splinters of the Hindu Mahasabha are such groups. Several groups ( fringe elements) turned out from the organisation by the RSS have also become Godsevadi.

This is a broad categorisation of the current groups, according to me. Maybe one can find several people with different characteristics in the same group but the categorisation has been done on the basis of their leadership.

Any such division on the basis of its following would not be possible.

Each of you is free to make your own categorisations according to your own wisdom.You are free to agree or disagree  with the categorisation made by me. But it's not fair to paint every group with the same brush.
