NEW DELHI: The Children Islamic Organisation (CIO) has launched an environmental campaign across the country titled “Hands in Soil, Hearts with India”, with a big goal of getting one million children across India to plant and care for trees between 25 June and 26 July 2025.
Addressing a press conference at the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind headquarters, Ramla, Syed Nabigh Azhaan Husaini and Mohd Humaid said, “CIO, a national platform for the all-around development of children based on Islamic values – believes that care for nature must begin early and that children can change things when given the right guidance. This campaign seeks to start a spirit of care, responsibility, and love for nature in every child and aims to make tree planting a joyful and purposeful act of national service.”
Elaborating further, Ramla stated, “The reason behind this campaign is clear: the Earth is getting hotter, few trees are left, and air quality is worsening. Forests are vanishing, and with them, our protection against climate change. CIO believes that children can play a vital role in reversing this trend. When children plant and nurture a tree, they are not only helping the planet – they are securing their own future and learning lifelong values of responsibility and compassion.”
Talking about how the campaign will unfold, Syed Nabigh Azhaan Husaini said, “As part of this initiative, children will plant trees in schools, madrasas, mosques, neighbourhood parks, and even in front of their homes. Each child will be encouraged to name their tree, care for it like a friend, and record their experience through drawings, crafts, poetry, etc. A variety of activities – Green Pledge ceremonies, Friday sermons on protecting nature, nature walks, and art, poetry, and storytelling contests will accompany the campaign to make it meaningful, educational, and fun. Children will also be invited to make short videos and reels about their green efforts, spreading the message on social media.”
Discussing the collaboration with the government and slogans to be used in the environmental campaign, Mohd Humaid stated, “To scale this campaign effectively, CIO is actively collaborating with government departments to provide healthy saplings, identify suitable planting locations, offer educational resources on plants and animals, and protect green zones. These partnerships will ensure that children receive the right support and that the planted trees survive and flourish. To inspire and boost participants, CIO is also launching a series of slogans that will echo through classrooms, homes, and public spaces:
“Where every child plants a tree, a greener world will bloom!” “A leaf shall smile – every day shall bring greenery!”
The CIO leaders appealed to all students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and faith leaders to actively participate in the campaign, saying, “Be a part of a generation that turns care into action. Be a Tree Hero. Be a Green Champion. We urge media organisations, educators, civil society, and environmental groups to share and support this campaign. Let this movement grow beyond numbers into a nationwide habit of taking care of the Earth, led by children. Imagine the impact: if one million children each plant and care for one tree, we will have one million new trees, making our country full of trees and securing our future. Plant a tree. Protect the Earth. Be proud.”
